Tendring Hundred Riding Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members and the highest ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty to create strength of character and self-discipline. Tendring Hundred Riding Club believes that it is important that members, parents / guardians, officials, volunteers and coaches should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others. Therefore, both senior and junior members are always encouraged to be open and to share any concerns or complaints they may have about any aspect of the club with the Chair/Safeguarding Officer.

What is the Role of the Safeguarding Officer?

A club safeguarding officer is primarily responsible for managing and reporting concerns about children and young people, and for putting in place procedures to safeguard children in the club or centre.

A club safeguarding officer will need to:

• work with others in the club to ensure a positive child-centred environment.
• ensure that their club is aware of The British Horse Society’s safeguarding policies, procedures and guidelines
• ensure parents/children are aware of the policy and procedures
• receive queries and offer support regarding safeguarding concerns
• undertake training as necessary
• promote training to club staff, members and volunteers
• assist the club or centre to ensure that codes of conduct are in place for club staff, volunteers, coaches, young people and parents
• ensure confidentiality is maintained and information is only shared on a ‘’need to know’’ basis

Responding to concerns

• respond to any allegations or complaints made from within your club
• communicate with club committee and The BHS Safeguarding team regarding concerns
